Maintenance In The Construction Industry

About the Guest Editor Jezdimir Knezevic is the President of the MIRCE Akademy of System Operational Science and professor at its School for System Operational Solutions. His 20 years of academic and professional experience in reliability, maintenance and logistics engineering, has been summarised through over 200 technical and scientific publications. He has also authored several books, including Reliability, Maintainability and Supportability – A Probabilistic Approach and Systems Maintainability. He has received international awards for his contribution to the file of logistics engineering and education. Dr Knezevic is editor or section editor of several worldwide professional journals and book series. It is a great honour and privilege to write this editorial, for the special issue of JQME dedicated to maintenance practices in construction industry. While the impact of maintenance on the operation and safety has been fully recognised in commerial aviation, military, nuclear power and some other industries the construction industry is lagging behind in this respect. For that reason I am very happy to see that this issue of our journal is solely dedicated to the maintenance engineering practices, methods and tools available and applied to the construction industry. I would like to thank all contributors from Universities of Dundee, Exeter and Sheffield who have taken the time to share the latest concepts and methods developed by their research teams, supported by real life data provided by W.S. Atkins, Skanska Construction Ltd, Home Group Ltd and Gowrie Housing Association Ltd, with the large number of readers of this maintenance dedicated journal. I would also like to thank the Editorial Board for giving me the opportunity to be the Guest Editor, and for giving the fully deserved credit to maintenance considerations in construction industry by dedicating the entire issue to this subject. Finally, I am grateful to MIRCE Akademy for giving me time to work on this issue, as well as for paying full attention to maintenance engineering in its research and educational activities.
